The Edo State Security Squad has arrested 12 suspected cultists during a raid on criminal hideouts in Uzebu Quarters, Benin City, in Oredo Local Government Area.
The squad’s Publicity Secretary, George Aburime, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Benin on Saturday, saying the operation was carried out on Friday.
According to Aburime, the suspects were apprehended at Asoro Hill along Ekenwan Road, an area identified by security agencies as a hotspot for drug trafficking and cult-related activities.
He said the suspects had been handed over to the police for further investigation and would be prosecuted if found culpable.
Aburime reiterated that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo would not tolerate criminal activities or any actions capable of undermining law and order in the state.
He also disclosed that the security squad visited Iyanomo community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area to mediate a leadership dispute involving rival groups.
According to him, the intervention was aimed at restoring peace, with both factions urged to embrace dialogue and avoid actions that could threaten public order.
Aburime further appealed to residents not to harbour criminals, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to maintaining peace and security across Edo State.
