The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has dismissed 15 officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service and demoted 59 others after concluding deliberations on 231 disciplinary cases.
Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, announced the decision in a statement on Tuesday.
The Board’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee (BDGPC) presented the cases following extensive investigations and due process.
“After a thorough review, the Board approved various disciplinary measures in line with its commitment to enforcing discipline and upholding the Service’s integrity,” the statement said.
Alongside the dismissals and demotions, 42 officers received written warnings, while eight were compulsorily retired. One officer had their rank reversed and was ordered to refund all earnings received while wrongly holding that position.
Sixteen personnel were cleared of all allegations, while seven remain suspended pending further investigation.
In one case, the Board suspended an officer and recommended handing them over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution due to the severity of the offence.
Under the leadership of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunde Ojo, the CDCFIB reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining ethical and professional standards at all levels.
Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwacuhe, assured the public that disciplinary matters would be handled fairly and in full compliance with established procedures.
