18-month-old baby beheaded for rituals in Ondo

An 18-month-old girl was allegedly beheaded in a suspected ritual killing at Agoti farm settlement in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, prompting police investigations and the arrest of a suspect.

The victim’s father, Bright Kalu, a farmer from Abia State, said the tragic incident occurred on June 8, 2026, while the child was with her mother at their farm camp.

Kalu explained that he had gone to a nearby settlement to buy food items and returned to find his wife visibly distressed. According to him, she recounted that an unknown individual had attacked her at the camp. While she managed to rescue three of their children, their youngest child was missing.

The father said he immediately joined his elder brother, Ifeanyi, in searching the area. Their search later led to the discovery of the toddler’s body behind their residence, with her head severed.

Kalu has appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies and human rights organisations to ensure those responsible are identified and prosecuted.

The incident was initially reported at Olofin Police Station in Idanre before the case was transferred to the Ondo State Police Command headquarters in Akure for further investigation.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said one suspect had been arrested and that investigations were ongoing.

Jimoh added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the police investigation.
