2026 UTME: Inaccurate information can cost you your admission, JAMB warns candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned candidates against engaging in registration violations or breaching the attestation they signed during registration.

The Board’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, issued the warning as the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, which began on January 26, entered its third week.

Speaking with media executives penultimate week, Oloyede highlighted the gravity of registration offences, as reported in JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on its website on Monday.

According to the Registrar, “Registration infraction is a serious offence, noting that candidates may be barred from sitting the UTME for up to three years.”

He added, “In addition, names of defaulters may be published by the Board in the national dailies as well as circulated to other public examination bodies.”

Prof. Oloyede also revealed that offenders could be referred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, or the Nigerian Police for legal action.

Addressing the attestation signed during registration, the Registrar explained that it obliges candidates to provide truthful and accurate information in their application forms and supporting documents.

He stressed that any falsification of data would attract strict sanctions.

“The attestation clause, now an integral part of the application documents, has been incorporated into the registration process due to lessons learned from previous legal battles with candidates,” Oloyede noted.

He further emphasised that the attestation functions as a formal verification process, ensuring the authenticity of academic qualifications and all submitted information, thereby preventing fraudulent activities.

The Registrar urged candidates to refrain from submitting false information, warning that such actions could threaten their prospects of gaining admission into tertiary institutions.
