The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Chima Anyaso, has appealed to youths in Abia State and other Nigerians to stay away from electoral violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Anyaso made the appeal in Uzuakoli on Wednesday while unveiling his manifesto and signing a social pact with residents and stakeholders from Bende Local Government Area.
He warned young people against allowing themselves to be used by politicians to cause violence, stressing that the outcome of an election should never come at the cost of anyone’s life or future.
He said, “No election is worth your life. No politician’s ambition is worth destroying your future.”
The event was attended by traditional rulers, youths, pressure groups, civil society organisations, party leaders and representatives from the 13 wards in the constituency.
While presenting the pact, Anyaso described it as a commitment to addressing the needs of communities across Bende Federal Constituency.
He said, “The pact is a covenant midwifed through hard work and diligence, taking into consideration the interests and plights of communities in Bende Federal Constituency.”
The entrepreneur also expressed concern over the state of infrastructure and representation in Bende, despite the resources generated from the constituency.
According to him, his agenda would prioritise infrastructure, healthcare, education and empowerment programmes for residents, particularly young people and women.
He said, “I would attract quality roads, hospitals, schools, and adequately fund skills acquisition and other opportunities for youths and women.”
The LP candidate further urged voters to assess the track records and credentials of aspirants before casting their ballots in the 2027 elections.
He also called on residents to demand accountability from elected representatives and reject promises that are not followed by measurable results.
On his political ambition, Anyaso pledged that he would not seek a third term if elected, citing the existing understanding between the Umunna and Ikwu Isii blocs in the constituency.
He said, “I will respect the arrangement and would not seek a third term in office; I pledge to support an Ikwu Isii candidate at the appropriate time since I am from Umunna section”.
He also urged his supporters to remain firm despite possible intimidation during the election period.
He said, “Do not be afraid. Do not allow anybody to intimidate you because you have chosen to support me. Do not allow anybody to tell you that this election has already been decided. We are winning this one. The power belongs to you”
Anyaso commended Governor Alex Otti, Labour Party leaders and residents of Bende for their support, while again urging youths to reject recruitment into violent activities.
