2027: Mutfwang, Kwara speaker clinch APC governorship nominations

The APC has picked Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and Kwara Assembly Speaker, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, as its governorship candidates for the 2027 elections in Plateau and Kwara states.

Mutfwang secured a landslide victory in the Plateau APC primary, defeating retired military officer Chief Yilcini Jan Bida after polling 233,335 votes against 3,070. The result was announced in Jos by the chairman of the party’s primary committee, Fidelis Mnyim.

“Therefore, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared elected and returned as the governorship candidate of Plateau State,” the returning officer stated.

The governor officially dumped the PDP late last year before joining the APC in January 2026.

Meanwhile, in Kwara State, Danladi-Salihu emerged victorious after defeating 14 other contenders in the APC governorship primary conducted across the state’s 16 local government areas.

Chairman of the election committee, Musiliu Obanikoro, announced that the speaker polled 94,990 votes to beat Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, who scored 41,700 votes, and former APC chairman Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, who secured 22,118 votes.

Reacting to the exercises, APC leaders in both states praised the primaries as peaceful, transparent and a sign of party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
