2027: Obi may dump coalition for PDP, seek presidential ticket — Ali Modu Sheriff

Former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has suggested that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, may return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi recently teamed up with other prominent opposition figures under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to form a coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Although Obi has expressed interest in contesting the 2027 election under the coalition, speculation continues to mount that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may also vie for the PDP’s presidential ticket.

Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Sheriff revealed that available information points to Obi potentially emerging as the PDP’s flagbearer.

The former governor said, “Atiku has been the vice president of Nigeria. So for him, (it is) president or nothing. Peter Obi ran under the Labour Party. His ambition is to become President.

“Information available to me is that any moment from now, Obi would go back to the PDP and run as a presidential candidate under the PDP.

“So that leaves Vice President Atiku and (Rotimi) Amaechi. So tell me, which states do they control?”
