The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Monday encouraged Nigerians to actively participate in the Continuous Voter Registration, stressing that the Permanent Voter Card remains the most powerful tool for building a new Nigeria.
In a post via X, Obi reminded eligible voters not to underestimate the power of their PVC, describing it as “the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor against injustice and bad leadership.”
He emphasised that the future of the nation lies in the hands of its citizens, noting that “the greatest strength of democracy is in the voter’s card.” Obi further urged Nigerians to stay vigilant, organise themselves to prevent election rigging, and resist the temptation of selling their votes.
The former Anambra State governor explained that politicians who buy votes only do so to gain access to public resources for looting, while those who sell their votes end up mortgaging their future and that of their children—denying themselves access to quality education, healthcare, and employment.
Calling on citizens to elect leaders with competence, character, capacity, and compassion, Obi cautioned Nigerians not to be deceived or intimidated during the electoral process.
*“Those who buy votes are not offering you charity; they only invest in their own corruption. Such people are not leaders, they are criminals in disguise.
“The power to change this country is in your hands. The looters will only loot when we give them the opportunity. Your vote counts—if it doesn’t, they wouldn’t be desperately buying it.
“Our democracy is at stake. That is why I urge every eligible Nigerian to register, collect, and safeguard your PVC, and when the time comes, use it wisely. Let us stand together and prove that Nigeria belongs to the people, not to those who trade our future for selfish gain,”* he said.
Reiterating his vision, Obi concluded that a “New Nigeria is possible” if citizens take responsibility for the change they seek.
