Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that notable former leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and key allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have agreed to back President Bola Tinubu.
Among the political heavyweights are former PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara; former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia; and former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo.
Governor Fubara made this known on Thursday during the New Year banquet hosted by the Rivers State Government at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Port Harcourt.
He acknowledged the presence of the leaders at the event, noting that their public appearance and decision effectively countered allegations and blackmail suggesting he was aligning with individuals opposed to the President’s interests.
‘Unshaken’
The governor reiterated that he remains resolute despite political pressures, stating that his faith in God continues to give him strength and assurance.
Fubara said it is on the foundation of that faith that the full purpose of governance in Rivers State will be achieved.
He stressed that he was not “barking,” explaining that he has a clear understanding of the political landscape and has already put strategies in place to successfully navigate it and deliver on his administration’s mandate.
He added that, as Julius Caesar implied, those who lack understanding often resort to “barking” when they fail to correctly interpret unfolding events.
The governor further declared that 2026 would mark what he described as “complete liberation” for Rivers State, assuring residents that all objectives set by his administration would be realised.
He expressed confidence that those who stood by him would ultimately feel fulfilled and proud of their choices, walking with their shoulders held high.
Governor Fubara also noted that his administration has faced numerous challenges but has emerged stronger, saying that even the battles he could not fight ultimately reinforced his determination.
He emphasized that he had lost nothing, adding that it was only a matter of time before everything would be fully recovered.
The governor concluded by assuring that his administration would never force anyone to do what is wrong, insisting that he harbours no fear and believes that every necessary bridge will be crossed when the time comes.
