2027: Wike-backed PDP faction denies Tinubu endorsement

A PDP faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports that it intends to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.

He stated that the PDP would present its own presidential candidate for the poll.

“We are not supporting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 2027 general election. We will do everything to field our own candidate.

“And I am appealing to Nigerians to please give us little time between now and the time we will conduct our primaries.

“All these rumours about we are supporting APC or [being an] appendage of the APC will come to pass.

“Time will take care of all these rumours and propaganda. It is aimed at either discrediting the PDP or discrediting the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike,” he said.

The clarification comes despite Wike’s repeated public backing for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

In early March 2026, Wike said at a media parley in Abuja that he would support Tinubu’s re-election, adding that his backing would extend across party lines to candidates loyal to the President.

Despite that stance, Mohammed said Wike remains an influential political figure who can make valuable contributions to any political party in Nigeria.

“He is an asset as far as political space and political development of this country concerned.

“No political party will not wish to have Nyesom Wike in their fold,” he added.
