Nigerian Army troops have reportedly killed 21 Boko Haram terrorists during a joint operation targeting a terrorist camp around the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the operation was carried out between the early hours of August 26 and August 27 following credible intelligence on the presence of Boko Haram fighters in the area.
“Military sources told Zagazola Makama that following the intelligence, the troops moved into the general area by stealth between 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 26 and 4:10 a.m. on Aug. 27 and subsequently launched an assault on the terrorists at their camp around Kopre Mountain,” Makama said.
The publication quoted military sources as saying the operation resulted in the deaths of 21 Boko Haram terrorists, while several others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
“The troops also destroyed the terrorist camp, including their logistics and other items found at the location.
“Several weapons and ammunition were recovered during the operation, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines and 7.62mm special ammunition.”
Makama added that troops destroyed several motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing premium motor spirit (PMS) belonging to the terrorists.
One member of the hunter group supporting the operation was reportedly killed during the encounter.
“There were no reported losses of military equipment,” Makama said.
