Abia APC gov candidate seeks justice for slain nursing student

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 Abia State election, Eric Opah, has reacted to the killing of Miss Wendy Achumba, a nursing student from Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, who was allegedly murdered in Obowo, Imo State.

Opah described the incident as “painful, heartbreaking, and unfortunate,” noting that the death of the young student was a huge loss not only to her family but also to society.

Achumba, who attended Our Lady of Mercy Nursing School, Obowo, was reportedly killed at her off-campus residence in the community.

Two suspects currently being held by the police allegedly admitted involvement in the crime in a viral video circulating online.

In a statement released on Monday by his Director of Media and Publicity, Eric Ikwuagwu, Opah said he “deeply feels the pain and grief of Wendy’s parents” and prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.

He also praised the Nigeria Police Force for apprehending the suspects and called on security agencies to “ensure that justice is served and that nothing is spared in uncovering the full truth surrounding the incident.”

The APC chieftain further urged students and residents to stay alert and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to law enforcement authorities.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of Achumba’s soul and asked God to grant her eternal rest.

Earlier, the Imo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Onyema Okonkwo and Emmanuel Onyekachi, over the alleged rape and murder of the 21-year-old nursing student in Umuadara Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.

Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Umuadara Umulogho, Patrick Uwalaka, alongside members of the community, condemned the killing and distanced the community from the crime.
