The Abia State Government, through the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), has vowed to prosecute the owner of a property in Aba where about 100 bags of human waste were reportedly found.
The Deputy General Manager of ASEPA, Aba Zone, Okezie Ezengwa, disclosed this in a statement on the discovery, saying both the landlord and tenants had been invited for questioning.
Ezengwa said the landlord and tenants had gone into hiding but assured that efforts were underway to apprehend them and bring them before the court.
He announced that the building, located at No. 16 Ibadan Street, Aba, had been sealed through a court order.
Ezengwa, who disclosed that four nursing mothers were found in the building on August 14, 2026, the day ASEPA officials made the discovery, explained that the ages of the babies ranged from two weeks to four months.
He lamented that ASEPA monitoring teams were receiving threats to their lives and facing physical attacks in the Aba area from environmental offenders.
“We commend the intelligence and commitment of our monitoring members who discovered this grave nuisance and have not relented in their duties, even in the face of threats to life, numerous physical assaults and grave injuries from angry environmental offenders,” he stated.
