Traffic was disrupted on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday as emergency officials carried out recovery operations following a lone accident near the Kara Bridge.
The incident temporarily slowed movement along the affected stretch of the highway, leaving motorists stranded in heavy traffic while responders worked to clear the obstruction and restore normal vehicular flow.
In an update posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that recovery efforts were underway and had impacted traffic on the route.
The agency explained that vehicles were briefly held back to allow recovery personnel to safely remove the wreckage and clear the accident scene.
“The traffic backlog has stretched to New Garage and beyond, causing delays for motorists travelling towards Ogun State,” LASTMA stated.
The development led to a build-up of vehicles along the Lagos-bound and Ogun-bound sections of the expressway, with commuters experiencing longer travel times as the operation continued.
However, LASTMA noted that motorists travelling from Mowe-Ibafo inward Lagos were not experiencing significant challenges, as that direction remained free-flowing with no major obstruction reported.
LASTMA also provided an update on another traffic incident involving a fallen containerised truck at the Cater Bridge area. The agency confirmed that the truck had been successfully evacuated from the bridge, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
Authorities have continued to advise road users to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and remain alert while using major highways, particularly during periods of emergency response and recovery operations.
