Adamawa govt debunks rumoured school closure

The Adamawa State Government clarified on Friday that schools throughout the state have not been closed.

The clarification followed widespread rumours claiming that schools had been shut due to the current security situation.

In a statement issued to journalists by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the government emphasized that reports suggesting it ordered the closure of schools are false and misleading.

“At no point did the government direct schools to close, and we have no intention to do so,” the government stated, quoting Governor Fintiri as urging the public to disregard the rumour.

“Schools should continue with academic activities as usual,” the government stated, adding that it would not tolerate any attempt to undermine efforts to reposition the education sector.

It may, however, be recalled that the government had earlier in the week ordered the suspension of boarding in any school.

It asked all boarding schools to convert to day-only services, explaining a need to prevent abductions that have occurred in boarding schools in parts of the country in recent days.
