Adeboye prayed for me, confident in my triumph — Sowore

African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has disclosed that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, offered to pray for him and expressed confidence in his “triumph” following a private meeting between them in Lagos.

Sowore made the disclosure in posts on his X handle on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after attending the National Thanksgiving Service at the RCCG headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

According to the AAC candidate, he was introduced to the congregation during the service and received a warm reception from members of the church.

“We received a warm and enthusiastic reception today at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, after I was introduced to the congregation,” he wrote.

“The message of hope, revolutionary justice, and national renewal continues to resonate everywhere.”

Sowore said he later met privately with Adeboye, who offered to pray for him and reportedly told him that he closely followed his activities.

He said the cleric described his political path as honourable and expressed confidence in his eventual success.

“After the service, I had a private meeting and conversation with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who offered to pray for me,” Sowore said.

“He stated that he follows my activities religiously, expressed certainty that my path is honorable, and said he is confident of my triumph.”

Sowore attended the service at the invitation of the church alongside AAC National Chairman, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe, according to Church Times.

The presidential hopeful also revealed that his meeting with Adeboye was their second encounter. He recalled meeting the cleric at the same venue in 1996, shortly after completing his National Youth Service Corps programme, during a campaign against campus cultism.

“Thirty years later, we met again at the same place. I deeply appreciate the warm reception of members of the church, and our private conversation, and his prayers,” he said.

Sowore, however, clarified that his attendance at the church service was not intended to advance a political agenda.
