AGF takes over cyberstalking case against Ogun monarch

A Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has directed the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to take over the prosecution of a cyberstalking case involving Oba Adedayo Richard Shyllon, the Alagbado of Agbado.

The case, marked FHC/AB/79C/2025 and initiated by the Commissioner of Police, came up for arraignment on Tuesday before Justice Abiodun J. Adeyemi. The 62-year-old traditional ruler was present in court during the proceedings.

Justice Adeyemi informed the legal representatives that the court had received a letter from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the AGF’s office, dated September 16, 2025, requesting to take over the matter in line with Section 174 of the amended 1999 Constitution.

A Certified True Copy of the court order, dated September 24, 2025, confirmed that the DPP’s request had been delivered to and acknowledged by the Office of the Inspector-General of Police. Copies were also sent to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, and the Ogun State Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

After considering the submissions, Justice Adeyemi granted the application, formally transferring the case from the police to the federal ministry of justice.

“The application of the AGF to take over the matter is granted.”The case of Commissioner of Police vs. Adedayo Richard Shyllon is hereby taken over by the AGF,” the judge ruled.

With the ruling, the prosecution will now be handled by the Office of the Attorney-General. Further hearing in the case has been adjourned to October 29, 2025.
