Air Chief urges NAF Troops to intensify fight against terrorism, banditry in Northwest

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, has urged personnel of the Nigerian Air Force to remain resolute and leave no stone unturned in the effort to defeat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities in the Northwest Region.

He also tasked the troops with strengthening security measures to safeguard the lives and property of their host communities.

Aneke gave the charge during a Christmas Luncheon with troops of the Air Component, Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 2, and the 213 Forward Operating Base of the Nigerian Air Force in Katsina. The event was held on Thursday at the Sports Complex of the NAF 213 Operating Base, Katsina.

“Do not leave any stone unturned in the quest to subdue terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality within the northwest region,” Aneke said through his representative, the Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP), Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdullahi Yaro.

He noted that sustained operations have led to the neutralisation of many terrorists, the destruction of their logistics networks, and the rescue of several kidnapped victims.

“I want to acknowledge that the combined effort of the Nigerian Air Force alongside sister services and other security agencies have yielded positive results with diverse impacts on bandits and terrorists in recent times.

“Many of the terrorists’ fighters neutralized including their logistics while several kidnapped victims have regained their freedom.

“I urge you to replace robust security measures to secure the base and its critical assets as well as the lives and property of the host communities,” he stated.

The air chief also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support in addressing the operational logistics and welfare needs of the service, which he said has enhanced the Nigerian Air Force’s capacity to carry out its mandate effectively.

He further encouraged the troops to stay focused and relentless in the fight against terrorism and banditry.

“Your sacrifices are not taking for granted. The NAF is making tremendous efforts towards addressing your welfare and administrative needs,” he assured.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Idris, acknowledged the contributions of Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 2, describing them as critical to the overall anti-banditry operations across joint operational theatres.

He disclosed that the Nigerian Air Force has strengthened aerial dominance, resulting in the significant neutralisation of terrorists across Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Katsina States.

According to him, these operations—often conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies—have disrupted terrorist logistics, command structures, and freedom of movement.

He also commended the resilience and professionalism of NAF personnel, noting their continued dedication despite the challenging operational environment.
