Aiyedatiwa, Makinde set to attend Olu Falae’s book launch

Top political figures, traditional rulers, and notable Nigerians are expected to converge in Lagos on Thursday for the unveiling of elder statesman and monarch Oba Olu Falae’s autobiography, titled The Triumph of Grace.

The event, scheduled to hold at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos, is set to attract dignitaries from government, the financial sector, academia, and traditional institutions, according to a statement released on Wednesday by the publicity secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi.

Oba Olu Falae, Chairman of the National Executive Committee of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, previously served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation under Ibrahim Babangida and briefly as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance in 1990. Prior to his political career, he also built a notable reputation in the banking sector.

“The ceremony will be chaired by former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd), while the book will be formally unveiled by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde. Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will serve as the host governor,” the statement said.

Royal attendees will include Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, and Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, while Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, the Deji of Akure, will host the gathering in a royal capacity.

Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko is expected to review the book, providing reflections on Falae’s decades-long involvement in public service, politics, and traditional leadership.

Falae was also the presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy during the 1999 Nigerian presidential election, a significant milestone marking Nigeria’s return to democratic governance.

The launch aims to celebrate Falae’s remarkable journey and provide insights into Nigeria’s political history as captured in his memoir. He was appointed Chairman of Afenifere’s National Executive Committee in May 2025.
