Akpabio urges Nigerians to safeguard projects

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to protect government facilities located in their communities.

He made the appeal on Tuesday while inaugurating projects in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

“My duty as your representative in the Senate is to ensure that I deliver projects that you request for the overall good of the people,” Akpabio said in a statement released on Wednesday by his spokesman, Jackson Udom.

“You, as beneficiaries of these projects, owe the government a duty to protect the facilities so they are not vandalised or destroyed by enemies of progress. Communities must take ownership of these projects, as this will encourage government at all levels to do more.”

He cautioned against the mindset that public property could be vandalised without consequence, stressing that damaging facilities amounted to destroying community assets and discouraging further development.

Akpabio assured constituents of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to deliver the dividends of democracy nationwide. “This administration is determined to make life easier, especially for ordinary Nigerians. Recently, the President approved financial empowerment for 1,000 Nigerians in every ward across the country to boost grassroots economic power,” he added.

Earlier, community leader and member of the National Communication Commission, Chris Okorie, pledged support for the re-election of President Tinubu, Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno.

Projects inaugurated by the Senate President included an eight-classroom block and an ICT centre at St Augustine Secondary School, Ika Local Government Area.
