Alaafin palace refute appointment of new Chief Imam in Oyo

The Alaafin’s Palace has refuted rumours suggesting that a new Chief Imam has been appointed in Oyo.

In a statement on Monday, Bode Durojaiye, Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, described the circulating claims as “unfounded, baseless, and wicked,” urging the public to disregard them.

The palace clarified that no individual has been chosen for the town’s highest Islamic office, explaining that the selection process is still ongoing and requires wide consultations.

Residents were encouraged to remain calm and patient, with assurance that the rightful appointment would be made at the appropriate time.

The statement also reaffirmed that the exclusive authority to appoint the Chief Imam rests with the Alaafin.
