Anambra Government dismisses eight vigilante operatives over assault on NYSC member

The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit for assaulting and publicly stripping a female corps member, Miss Jennifer Elobor.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, announced the dismissal at the agency’s headquarters in Awka on Wednesday.

He said the government acted immediately after receiving reports of the incident, stressing that the dismissed operatives would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

According to him, the officers claimed they were pursuing suspected cultists on Tuesday when they attacked the corps member — an action he described as “completely outside the agency’s mandate and utterly condemnable.”

Emeakayi insisted the Soludo administration would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, brutality, or abuse of office. He confirmed that the state had settled the victim’s medical bills, replaced her damaged valuables, and issued a public apology to her family, the NYSC, and the public.

He added that the incident would mark a turning point in reforming the security outfit and restoring public confidence.

The state police command has yet to confirm whether the dismissed operatives have been handed over for prosecution.
