The Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Chiamaka Nnake, has explained how she became associated with a purported federal agency that has recently come under scrutiny.
Nnake said her involvement stemmed from her nomination by the Anambra State Government as the state’s “focal person” for the Made-in-Nigeria Office, which claimed to operate under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to her, the state became involved after receiving a request from the office to nominate a representative. She said she was subsequently selected by the governor in February 2026.
She added that representatives from the 36 states were brought together in a WhatsApp group to discuss programmes and activities attributed to the office.
Nnake said the office later approached the Anambra Government with a proposal to host the South-East Made-in-Nigeria Fair in the state. The proposal was approved, leading to an initial meeting attended by the purported national coordinator about two weeks ago.
However, following the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission’s discovery that the organisation was allegedly fake, the SSG said the state had unknowingly been drawn into plans for the event.
She issued the clarification in a statement titled, “Clarification on the ‘Made-in-Nigeria Agency’ and my role as State Focal Person,” saying she wanted to explain the circumstances surrounding her appearance in reports about the organisation.
Nnake said the state had been preparing for the proposed fair, which was scheduled for December 2 to 5, 2026, before the controversy emerged.
She maintained that her relationship with the organisation was restricted to the official activities communicated to her through the state government.
“Beyond these official interactions and engagements, she has no knowledge of, involvement in, or connection with any other activities, claims, or developments attributed to the said office.
“I therefore wish to make it clear that anything beyond the above-mentioned official interactions is entirely outside my knowledge and involvement,” she added.
