Another minister resigns from Tinubu’s cabinet

The minister of transportation, Said Alkali, has stepped down from his role to contest the 2027 governorship election in Gombe.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Umar Jibril, the minister’s special assistant on media and publicity, said the decision aligns with the presidential directive mandating political appointees seeking elective positions to resign by March 31.

“The minister is resigning to contest for the governorship in the upcoming elections. In his letter, he expressed deep appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, citing significant progress made in the transportation sector during his tenure,” the statement reads.

“The President has accepted the resignation and thanked the Minister for his dedicated service to the nation.”

President Bola Tinubu had appointed Alkali as minister of transportation on August 16, 2023, as part of a cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening the country’s transportation system, including road, rail, and logistics infrastructure.
