Operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command, in collaboration with Nigerian Army troops, have intensified efforts to combat hoodlums linked to the attack on the Amegu Nkalaha community in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, it was revealed that the crackdown resulted in the arrest of one suspect.
Ukandu disclosed that the security team acted on credible intelligence to target hoodlum camps in the Amegu and Umulesha villages within the Nkalaha community. Upon arrival, the hoodlums opened fire on the operatives, who responded with superior firepower, overpowering the attackers.
While many suspects fled into the surrounding bushes, one individual was apprehended during the operation. The team also dismantled the criminals’ shrines and camps, recovering two Dane guns, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle.
Ukandu reassured the public of continued efforts to track down the attackers and bring them to justice. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the command’s control room via 07064515001.
The February 2 attack on the Amegu Nkalaha community by suspected hoodlums claimed the lives of at least 17 people and resulted in the destruction of property worth millions of naira.
