Aondoakaa picks 38-year-old deputy governorship candidate for Benue PDP

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State, Michael Aondoakaa, SAN, has selected 38-year-old Dr Oyije Ochaekiti-Ogbenjuwa as his running mate ahead of the 2027 election.

Aondoakaa, who previously served as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation under the administration of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, announced the choice during the party’s state congress in Makurdi on Sunday.

Speaking at the event, the PDP candidate explained that the selection of the youthful running mate reflects the party’s commitment to encouraging youth participation in politics and governance.

He stated that, if elected in 2027, one of his foremost goals would be to end the persistent attacks and killings affecting communities across Benue State.

Aondoakaa also pledged to run a campaign centred on policies and solutions rather than divisive politics, stressing the need for unity, service and constructive engagement.

He urged party members to remain united and work collectively toward achieving victory in the next election cycle.

He said, “The journey ahead requires sacrifice, commitment, and collective determination. We must take our message to every ward, every local government, and every household across our dear state.

“To the youth of Benue, I hear your voices and understand your aspirations. You are not the leaders of tomorrow alone; you are critical partners today.”

The PDP governorship candidate further appealed to women, traditional rulers, religious leaders and elders across the state to support the party as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election.
