The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stated that the upcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will highlight the party’s unity, discipline, and shared determination to advance Nigeria’s development.
Idris made the remarks on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee responsible for coordinating communication activities for the 2026 APC National Convention.
Serving as the Co-Chairman of the subcommittee, the minister described the convention as an important moment for the ruling party as it works to strengthen internal democratic processes and reinforce its commitment to building a united and prosperous nation.
He noted that the event will allow the APC to demonstrate its cohesion and collective focus on national development.
“The upcoming national convention provides the party with an opportunity to demonstrate unity, discipline, and a shared commitment to national progress,” Idris said.
Speaking virtually from the United Kingdom, the minister also drew attention to the reforms currently being carried out under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, explaining that the initiatives aim to place Nigeria on a path toward sustainable economic growth and long-term progress.
He reiterated the party’s dedication to supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a key component of the government’s development plan.
Idris emphasized that in today’s rapidly evolving information space, effective communication plays a crucial role in the success of significant political events such as the national convention.
“The responsibility entrusted to this committee is both strategic and vital. The success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he said.
He further explained that the Media and Publicity Subcommittee’s duties go beyond ordinary publicity work, stressing the importance of providing accurate information, maintaining transparency, and ensuring active engagement with the media before and during the convention.
According to him, the committee will also help present the proceedings and outcomes of the convention to both Nigerians and the international community.
Idris listed several responsibilities for the subcommittee, including producing content, managing media relations, planning and buying media placements, coordinating media activities with other convention committees, compiling reports, monitoring media coverage, and evaluating performance across print and broadcast outlets.
He added that the group would also oversee the overall organisation of media operations connected to the convention.
Encouraging members to carry out their duties with dedication and innovation, the minister stressed the need to make full use of available media platforms to ensure widespread and positive coverage.
“I encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty. By leveraging media platforms within our reach, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he said.
Idris congratulated the committee members on their appointments and expressed confidence that their expertise would help ensure the successful organisation and communication of the 2026 APC National Convention.
He then officially inaugurated the Media and Publicity Subcommittee and wished them success in carrying out their duties.
The convention is scheduled to take place from March 25 to March 28.
