APC taunts Obi over ADC departure, claims he seeks automatic presidential ticket

All Progressives Congress has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his resignation from the African Democratic Congress, alleging that he is seeking an easy route to the presidency.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a post shared on X on Sunday, described Obi as a “political rolling stone,” accusing him of constantly switching political parties in search of a free presidential ticket.

“Peter Obi, a political rolling stone that gathers no moss… roaming again in search of free, uncontested, unchallenged presidential ticket… never willing to remain to build any party,” he wrote.

Morka further claimed that Obi prefers political advancement without facing internal party competition.

“He fantasises to be president on a ticket delivered only on a platter of gold… APGA – PDP – LP – ADC on to NDC,” he added.

He also labelled the former Anambra governor a “political drifter.”

“Fare thee well, Nigeria’s inconsolable political drifter,” Morka said.

Obi had earlier announced his exit from the ADC, citing internal crises and what he described as a toxic political atmosphere within the party.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Obi explained that his decision followed careful reflection over persistent disputes and divisions that, according to him, had distracted the party from focusing on national issues.

He clarified that his departure was not caused by personal rifts with party leaders such as former Senate President David Mark or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he still respects.

Obi also maintained that he is not desperate for political office, stressing that his focus remains on improving Nigerians’ welfare and promoting a more functional society.

Despite leaving the party, he reaffirmed his belief that competent and compassionate leadership can still transform the country, insisting that a better Nigeria is possible.
