APC wins all 18 chairmanship, 192 councillorship seats in Edo LG polls

The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of all 18 chairmanship positions and 192 councillorship seats contested in Saturday’s local government elections across the state.

Announcing the results at the commission’s headquarters in Benin City on Sunday, EDSIEC Chairman Jonathan Aifuobhokhan said the elections were conducted in line with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law and other relevant electoral guidelines.

According to him, the electoral process, which covered accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and the declaration of results, was successfully completed across all 18 local government areas.

Aifuobhokhan said the commission was satisfied with the performance of its returning officers, describing them as professional and impartial in carrying out their statutory duties.

He explained that following the completion of collation at both the ward and local government levels, the appointed returning officers officially declared the winners in their respective areas.

The EDSIEC chairman said the APC emerged victorious in every chairmanship and councillorship contest, securing a clean sweep of the elections.

He acknowledged that minor operational challenges were recorded in a few locations but insisted they did not affect either the conduct or the outcome of the polls, which he described as generally peaceful across the state.

Aifuobhokhan commended eligible voters for participating in the elections and expressed appreciation to Governor Monday Okpebholo for allowing the commission to perform its duties without interference.

He also announced that certificates of return would be presented to all successful candidates on Monday.

The EDSIEC chairman advised any individual or political party dissatisfied with the election outcome to seek redress through the appropriate legal channels.

He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to improving future elections through regular reviews and sustained engagement with stakeholders.
