The Nigerian Army council has approved the promotion of 105 senior officers to the ranks of major general and brigadier general.
In a statement on Friday, Appolonia Anele, acting director of army public relations, said the council gave its approval on Thursday.
According to the statement, 28 brigadier generals were promoted to major general, while 77 colonels were elevated to brigadier general.
The newly promoted officers serve in significant intelligence, logistics, and operational roles across various formations.
Those promoted to the rank of major-general include O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency; S.M. Uba, director of defence information; R.E. Hedima, acting chief of military intelligence army; R.T. Utsaha, deputy director of defence operations; A.M. Umar, commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy; S. Sulaiman, deputy military secretary (army); I.O. Bassey, director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre; along with others such as C.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering; S.Y. Yakasai, acting director of procurement in the office of the chief of army staff; S.S. Tilawan, acting commander of Sector 3 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI; and I.M. Abbas, commander of the 34 Brigade.
The council also approved the posthumous promotion of Z.A. Saidu.
Seventy-seven colonels from different corps and departments were also promoted to brigadier-general, including Y. Ibrahim of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Abuja; N.N. Gambo of the army headquarters department of civil-military affairs; A. Saidu of the headquarters Nigerian Army finance corps; I. Waziri from the office of the chief of defence staff; M.M. Sani of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji; M.T. Nagudu of the Nigerian Army armour school; K.O. Bukoye, commander of the 401 special forces brigade; and Y.K. Audu of the headquarters Joint Task Force North-East Operation HADIN KAI.
Waidi Shaibu, the chief of army staff (COAS), congratulated the newly elevated officers and their families.
“The officers must uphold, without compromise, their sacred oath of allegiance to defend the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Shaibu said.
“Their loyalty to the Constitution must remain absolute, unwavering, and beyond reproach.”
The COAS further urged them to provide exemplary leadership and inspire their subordinates through their conduct.
