Army thwart Boko Haram attempt to plant IED on Borno Bridge

Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted an attempt by Boko Haram terrorists to plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on a bridge along the Dikwa–Marte road in Borno State.

Following a fierce gun duel, two heavy IEDs were recovered during the operation.

This action is part of the ongoing counteroffensive by the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, which is focused on eliminating terrorist elements from the region.

In an interview with Channels Television, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsallam Abubakar, disclosed that within the past week, troops carried out clearance operations across the Lake Chad region, Sambisa Forest, and the Mandara Mountains.

These operations led to the neutralization of nine terrorists in Bama, Gwoza, and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno State.

Major General Abubakar explained that the joint operations involve coordinated efforts by the Nigerian Navy patrolling the Lake Chad shores, the Nigerian Army on land, and the Nigerian Air Force delivering precision air support.

Alongside the recovered IEDs, troops also confiscated AK-47 rifles and PKT machine guns from the terrorists.

The Theatre Commander emphasized that these sustained military offensives have greatly improved security and stability in border communities near the Lake Chad basin.
