Asiwaju 2027: Lagos restricts traffic for mini-marathon

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has released a traffic notice ahead of a mini-marathon organised in support of President Bola Tinubu, set to take place on Sunday across parts of Agege, Lagos.

In a post shared on its official X account on Sunday, LASTMA stated that the race will begin at Agege Local Government Area, move through Odo Eran, pass Oba Ogunji, and continue through Oke Koto, Oniwaya, and Dopemu.

The course will also link Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road to Agbotikuyo, connect with Old Ipaja Motor Road, and conclude at the Orile Agege Local Council Development Area.

The authority noted that vehicle movement along these routes will be limited during the event, advising motorists to use alternative roads.

“Vehicles coming from Wemco Road can go through Ogba to Excellent Hotel, linking College Road to Iju Road, and continue their journey.

“Vehicles coming from Pen Cinema can go through Moshalashi Alhaja, linking Mobil Ashade, and continue their journey,” LASTMA advised.

Tagged ‘Run for Asiwaju 2027,’ the mini-marathon was organised by the Orile-Agege LCDA under the leadership of its chairman, Mr Dipo Liadi.

The event is intended to promote unity, identify sporting talent, and rally grassroots backing for President Tinubu’s leadership ahead of the next general elections.

Participants were drawn from various categories, including youths, professionals, elderly persons, individuals with disabilities, VIPs, and representatives of the Hausa and Igbo communities, ensuring wide participation.

Total prize money stood at ₦2.3 million, with the first 200 finishers each receiving ₦10,000, while seven elite athletes were awarded ₦50,000 each.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, a major supporter of the event, had earlier said he would compete in the VIP category and described the marathon as a reflection of Tinubu’s “transformative leadership.”

In a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, Obasa said, “The marathon will reward excellence, with 200 participants receiving ₦10,000 each, while seven professional athletes will earn ₦50,000 each.”

LASTMA appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic personnel on duty and make adequate travel plans to minimise inconvenience.
