Bandit Kingpin Danbokolo killed in Zamfara clash

Details have emerged on how the notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo, died over the weekend following a gun battle with Shinkafi Volunteer Forces in Zamfara State.

Danbokolo’s death sparked widespread celebrations across Zamfara and neighbouring North-West states. Many residents regarded him as even more dangerous than his cousin, Bello Turji, who they said merely acted as a spokesperson, while Danbokolo led violent operations.

Security sources reported that the volunteer forces launched a surprise assault, killing Danbokolo and over 173 of his fighters. Danbokolo, who sustained severe gunshot wounds during the attack, died shortly after and was buried on Saturday.

His death was especially welcomed in Kurya District, Shinkafi Local Government Area, where he had terrorised residents for years. Locals celebrated openly, expressing relief at his demise.

One villager said, “We are in a mood of celebration. Danbokolo’s name used to terrify us. He was the real commander. Turji only spoke on their behalf, but Danbokolo carried out the atrocities.”

Another resident noted that many loyal to Turji have begun to panic, with some reportedly seeking to surrender. “For the first time, we truly believe this may be the end of the bandits. Turji now has no safe haven and is begging for amnesty,” he said.

Locals, especially farmers, expressed hope that they will no longer be forced to pay illegal levies to bandits this farming season.
