Bandits have abducted at least 10 residents during coordinated assaults on Tungar Wazga and Unguwar Chiroma communities in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
While police confirmed that 10 people were taken, local sources claimed the number of victims was closer to 15, noting that some captives were later rescued following a fierce exchange of gunfire between the assailants and security forces.
According to him, “I can’t confirm how many are still in captivity, but I strongly believe that about six were rescued by the police.”
The Police spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, explained that the Divisional Police Officer in Danko mobilised a joint team of policemen and vigilantes, who pursued the bandits and intercepted them at Marina, a border village near Zamfara State.
He stated that during the fierce exchange of fire, the bandits abandoned six of their victims and fled into the forest with gunshot injuries, adding that the attackers had crossed into Kebbi from Zamfara.
Those rescued victims, he said, are aged between 11 and 25 and have since been reunited with their families after medical checks.
