Suspected bandits have carried out another attack in Kwara State, abducting four rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area.
The incident comes less than 24 hours after gunmen targeted a church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, killing two people and abducting several others.
Sources report that the latest attack occurred on Wednesday evening while the victims were working on their rice farms during the peak harvest season.
A community source explained that the assailants arrived suddenly, surrounding the farmers as they gathered their harvested rice.
“It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate. Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging,” the source said.
Residents added that the gunmen operated for several minutes without resistance, forcing the farmers into the nearby bush before taking them to an unknown location.
Community members also revealed that increasing insecurity in Edu LGA has left many farming settlements deserted, as farmers fear attacks during harvest — a period when they are most vulnerable in the fields.
As of the time of reporting, the Kwara State Police Command and the state government had not issued an official statement.
