Suspected bandits have abducted retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, along with his wife in Katsina State.
The couple were reportedly travelling through Katsina on Saturday when armed men ambushed their vehicle and took them to an undisclosed location.
Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Police Command had not released an official statement on the abduction.
Katsina remains one of the states most affected by banditry and kidnapping despite repeated security operations aimed at restoring peace and stability.
In March, three soldiers were killed during a gun battle with bandits in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state.
Abubakar’s abduction is the latest case involving a retired senior military officer in Katsina.
In February 2025, retired Major General Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was kidnapped in Bakori Local Government Area. He regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity.
