Bandits kill elderly woman, abduct three in fresh Kano community attack

Gunmen suspected to be bandits carried out a fatal assault on Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, resulting in the death of an elderly woman and the abduction of three residents.

The attack, which took place late Saturday night, caused widespread fear in the small farming community, as many people were asleep when the armed men invaded.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said security personnel had been deployed to pursue the attackers.

“We are doing everything possible to rescue the kidnapped victims and restore calm to the area,” Kiyawa told our reporter.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the gunmen rode into the area on motorcycles, parking them on the edge of the village before advancing on foot to avoid being noticed.

A resident who requested anonymity described the killing of the elderly woman as “heartbreaking.”

“She pleaded with them not to take her son,” he said. “They refused to listen to her. They shot her and took the young man away.”

The gunmen also stormed another house, abducting two women, one of whom is the sister-in-law of the ward councillor.

At the time this report was filed, security teams were reportedly searching nearby forests in efforts to rescue the victims and capture the perpetrators.
