Bauchi electoral commission announces date for LG election

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has announced a 60-day notice ahead of the local government council elections slated for August 17, 2026.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Bauchi by the commission’s Secretary, Nuru Abdulhamid.

According to Abdulhamid, the notice was issued in accordance with the provisions of the Bauchi State Electoral Law, which requires the commission to formally inform political parties, stakeholders, and the public before the election.

He further noted that BASIEC had previously released a 360-day notice in August 2025, as stipulated by law, to give political parties and other stakeholders ample time to prepare for the electoral exercise.

He advised political parties intending to participate in the election, to conclude their internal preparations and ensure strict adherence to the Electoral Law and the commission’s guidelines.

“Detailed timelines, procedures, and other relevant information regarding the elections will be release in due course,” hecsaid.

The secretary reiterated commitment of the commission to free, fair, transparent, and credible election.
