Bauchi Governor leads PDP chieftains to court ahead of Convention Judgment

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Friday led several prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of the judgment concerning the party’s planned national convention.

Three PDP officials — Austin Nwachukwu, the Imo State chairman; Amah Nnanna, the Abia State chairman; and Turnah George, the South-South Secretary — filed the suit seeking to halt the convention where new national officers are due to be elected.

The plaintiffs based their case on allegations of a breach of the party’s constitution.

In August, the PDP Governors’ Forum had cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and others against taking actions that could disrupt the national convention scheduled for 15 November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Earlier this week, the party postponed the screening of aspirants for the 2025 national convention, citing “unforeseen circumstances.”

“The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has put on hold the screening of aspirants for the 2025 Elective National Convention, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 28 October 2025, due to unforeseen circumstances,” the PDP said in a statement signed by the committee’s chairman and Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri.

“A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement,” the statement added.
