The Bauchi State Police Command has directed a comprehensive investigation into the alleged killing of a 20-year-old man involving officers attached to a police outpost under the Misau Division in Misau Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, announced the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He said the command became aware of reports circulating on social media alleging that officers at the police outpost assaulted a young man during interrogation over a case under investigation.
The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Abdullahi Adamu of Sebore Village in the Hardawa District.
Habib said the victim was initially admitted to the Federal Medical Centre, Misau, before being referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he died on Sunday, July 12, 2026, while receiving treatment.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had expressed concern over the allegation, stressing that the command remained committed to professionalism, respect for human rights and due process.
“In line with this, the Commissioner has immediately ordered a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Command is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against any personnel found culpable in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the statement read.
The command expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
It also urged members of the public with relevant information that could aid the investigation to come forward and cooperate with the police.
