Hanan Buhari, the daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has appreciated “Nigerians for forgiving” her father.
Buhari, 82, passed away on July 13 at a London clinic following a prolonged illness.
Family sources revealed that the former president had been battling an undisclosed ailment and was recently discharged from intensive care before his condition worsened.
He was laid to rest at his residence in Daura, Katsina state, on Tuesday. His death, however, sparked mixed reactions — including tributes and criticisms — on social media.
In a recent interview with BBC Hausa, Hanan revealed that what she would miss the most about her father was his “sense of humour”.
She also appreciated “everyone who forgave Buhari,” while expressing that though his demise is hurtful, she has accepted it as the will of God.
“What I will miss most about him is his sense of humour. I look up to him as a part of me. I want to thank everyone who forgave my late father,” she said.
“On behalf of our family, we are grateful. We have nothing to say to them except thank God. He disciplined me to study, pray, and do things that made us happy.
“That is what I can say. But since Allah has decreed it, Alhamdulillah, I had the chance to be with him and read the Qur’an to him.
“I will miss everything about him, his jokes, how he made us laugh. But we know Allah did it, and it is become part of us.”
