Certain people need to ‘kpai’ for Nigeria to become great – El-Rufai’s son

The son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir El-Rufai, has stated that some individuals must die for Nigeria to attain the greatness that citizens aspire to.

Bashir and his father have remained outspoken since Bola Tinubu became Nigeria’s president in May 2023.

Recently, his father, who was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), publicly renounced his membership in the party.

Nasir El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the coalition working to unseat President Tinubu and the APC, initially aligned with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before switching to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the coalition’s official political platform.

On Friday, Bashir took to X to express his belief that Nigeria can truly achieve greatness.

However, he added that for this vision to be realized, some people must “kpai,” which is Nigerian slang for death.

His exact words were, “Nigeria can become great again. Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on context) a few certain people have to kpai to achieve this dream.”
