The Anambra chapter of the City Boys Movement, a youth support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, has organised a menstrual hygiene awareness programme for female students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
As part of activities marking the 2026 World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the group also shared sanitary pads with students during an event held on Friday at the ASUU auditorium on the UNIZIK campus.
Speaking at the programme, the group’s Women Leader in Anambra State, Adaora Soludo, said the initiative was aimed at promoting menstrual health awareness, fighting period poverty and encouraging girls to stay focused on their education.
Soludo, who also heads the Gloria Foundation, explained that the event sought to tackle challenges surrounding menstruation, including stigma and poor access to sanitary products among female students.
“We are delighted to be here with you today as we mark ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’ and discuss issues that concern the health, dignity, confidence, and future of young women,” she said.
She noted that many girls still face difficulties managing their menstrual health due to limited access to proper information and hygiene materials.
“Menstruation is a natural part of womanhood. It should never be seen as a thing of shame or embarrassment,” she added.
Encouraging the students to prioritise personal hygiene and healthy living, Soludo advised them to maintain cleanliness, eat properly and seek medical care when necessary.
“To all the young ladies here today, I encourage you to always take your personal hygiene seriously,” she said.
She also urged eligible students to participate in the democratic process by registering for their Permanent Voter’s Cards, stressing that young people have a critical role in nation-building.
“Your vote is your voice, and your voice is your power,” she stated.
The event drew the attendance of lecturers, students, university officials and other invited guests.
