The Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez, has arrived in Nigeria for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
She landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, accompanied by her spouse, Rafael Yerney Pinillo Ocoró. The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, and the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Bunkure, received her.
Also present were the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, and other senior government officials.
The visit is expected to deepen diplomatic and strategic relations between Nigeria and Colombia, with a focus on governance, trade, agriculture, energy, education, and security. Márquez is accompanied by cabinet ministers, senior officials, and business leaders who will engage their Nigerian counterparts on key areas of cooperation.
A major highlight of the trip will be the signing of memoranda of understanding in critical sectors, including women’s empowerment, trade, aviation, manufacturing, agriculture, and culture.
The programme also includes a plenary session with both vice presidents, the Nigeria-Colombia Business Forum, bilateral government meetings, and side events such as high-level business engagements hosted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, alongside a summit on artificial intelligence.
