Court adjourns Jude Okoye’s alleged N1.3bn fraud trial

The trial of former P-Square manager, Jude Okoye, was adjourned by the Federal High Court after the prosecution’s key witness, Peter Okoye, failed to appear for cross-examination.

Okoye and his company, Northside Music Limited, are facing charges involving alleged fraud totaling ₦1.3 billion and $1 million. The case is being heard before Justice Alexander Owoeye. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

At the resumed proceedings, prosecuting counsel G.C. Akaogu informed the court that Peter Okoye could not attend because his flight from Abuja to Lagos had reportedly been rescheduled. He requested a new hearing date and said the defence had been notified.

However, defence counsel Clement Onwuewunor (SAN) disputed the explanation, telling the court he had received information suggesting that Peter Okoye was already in Lagos the previous evening and had not travelled as claimed.

Following submissions from both sides, Justice Owoeye adjourned the matter until September 21, 2026, for continuation of the trial.
