Court rejects ADC Ward Leaders’ bid to bar Senator Kingibe

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday rejected an application by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders of Wuse Ward, FCT, seeking to bar Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in party activities following her alleged suspension.

The judge ruled that such requests must be exercised judicially, emphasizing that justice requires hearing the defendant’s side. Consequently, he ordered the ward leaders to serve Senator Kingibe with all court processes so she can prepare her defense. A hearing was scheduled for April 20, 2026.

The plaintiffs, Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel, claimed Kingibe was suspended on March 10, 2026, for anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and interference with ward administration. They sought to prevent her from attending meetings, holding functions, or representing the party, alleging she had continued to act as an ADC member despite suspension.

Senator Kingibe, through her lawyer Abubakar Marshall, filed a preliminary objection to the suit, which was served on the plaintiffs’ representative during Thursday’s proceedings.
