Court sentences two to prison for roaming naked in Ekiti

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court has sentenced two men, Adebiyi Olusola, 49, and Oguntola John, 30, to 30 days in prison for allegedly walking naked around parts of Ekiti State capital, Ado-Ekiti.

The duo was arraigned on a one-count charge of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, an offence punishable under Section 181(1)(d)(h) of the Ekiti State Laws, 2021.

They pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read to them, while their lawyer, Ogunleye Abiola, represented them during the court proceedings.

Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adosun ruled that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt, adding that the defendants’ guilty plea further supported the evidence presented before the court.

The magistrate subsequently sentenced both men to 30 days’ imprisonment without an option of fine.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the incident occurred around 4 a.m. on July 13 in the Palace Area of Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi informed the court that the convicts were found walking naked around the palace area and along a public road within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District.

He argued that their actions had the potential to disrupt public order, which led to their arrest and eventual prosecution.
