Tension flared at the Government House in Asaba over the weekend when a cow slated for slaughter broke loose and attacked staff, triggering panic among workers.
The animal went on a rampage, injuring multiple people in the process. One of the victims, a man in his 30s who tried to restrain the cow, was seriously hurt after being knocked to the ground. He was rushed to the Government House clinic’s emergency unit.
A source revealed that the victim sustained deep thigh injuries and received initial treatment at the clinic.
He said, “Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently battling for his life.”
He further noted that another victim, identified simply as Peter, a cook at the Government House, also sustained injuries.
“The first two butchers called to slaughter the cow were unable to handle it and fled the scene. The critically injured victim was reportedly the second person called to take over the task,” the source disclosed.
As of the time of filing this report, the Government House had yet to issue an official statement.
