The Cross River State House of Assembly has placed Dickson Ovat Agbor, the lawmaker representing Obubra I State Constituency, on indefinite suspension over alleged violent behaviour.
The decision was taken during plenary on Thursday after a motion was presented by Davies Etta and supported by Francis Asuquo.
While presenting the motion, the assembly strongly criticised the alleged violent conduct involving Agbor, describing it as behaviour unbecoming of a legislator and inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of members of the legislative arm of government.
Following deliberations, the House resolved to suspend Agbor indefinitely from all legislative duties and activities.
The assembly also approved the formation of a committee to investigate the incident and submit its findings to the House for further legislative consideration.
After the resolution was adopted, Agbor was escorted out of the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms in line with the directive of the lawmakers.
Speaking on the development, the Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem, said the assembly remains committed to maintaining discipline, dignity and the integrity of the legislature.
Ayambem stressed that lawmakers must conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the confidence and trust placed in them by the people.
The House added that the suspension will remain in effect until the investigative committee concludes its work and submits its report.
