Dangote launches crackdown on illegal haulage, offers ₦500,000 reward for whistleblowers

Dangote Industries Limited has stepped up efforts to tackle illegal haulage involving its trucks by introducing a whistle-blower initiative that offers a ₦500,000 reward for credible information leading to the arrest of offenders or the interception of unauthorised goods and passengers.

The company said the initiative is part of measures aimed at protecting the integrity of its logistics operations and curbing the misuse of Dangote-branded trucks for unauthorised commercial activities.

In a statement, the management urged members of the public to report any suspected cases of illegal haulage, stressing that only approved products are permitted to be transported by trucks belonging to its subsidiaries.

According to the company, Dangote Cement trucks are authorised to transport only cement, limestone, high-grade gypsum, coal and clinker. Dangote Sugar Refinery trucks are restricted to sugar products, while NASCON Allied Industries vehicles are designated for Dangote Salt and DanQ Seasoning products. Dangote Packaging trucks are approved to carry bags and packaging materials only.

Similarly, trucks operated by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals are permitted to transport polypropylene products, while vehicles belonging to Dangote Fertiliser Limited are authorised for the haulage of urea fertiliser.

The company warned that any Dangote truck found conveying unauthorised goods would be treated as engaging in illegal haulage, with both the driver and the owners of the cargo liable to arrest, confiscation of the goods and prosecution.

“Anyone with verifiable information that leads to the arrest of persons involved in illegal haulage activities or the recovery of unauthorized goods transported on Dangote trucks will receive a cash reward of Five Hundred Thousand Naira,” the company stated.

To support investigations, Dangote advised whistleblowers to provide key details, including the truck type, registration number, cab number, vehicle location, description of the goods being transported, the truck’s colour and, where possible, photographs of the vehicle and its cargo.

The company said dedicated hotlines have been established across its operations to receive reports, including incidents involving trucks operating from the Obajana, Okpella and Gboko plants.

Dangote also disclosed that law enforcement agencies, including the police, have been authorised to arrest drivers using company trucks for unauthorised commercial haulage.

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against logistics-related fraud, the company called on the public to support efforts to safeguard legitimate business operations by exposing illegal activities.

According to the statement, the initiative is intended to protect company assets, strengthen transparency, accountability and compliance across its nationwide logistics network.

“Public cooperation remains critical in our efforts to eradicate illegal haulage activities. We encourage anyone with credible information to come forward and help us maintain the integrity of our transportation system,” the statement added.

The company also assured that all reports would contribute to ongoing efforts to protect the Dangote brand, promote lawful business practices and ensure offenders are brought to justice.
